SES Latino Miami July 2006
I went down to the Inter-Continental hosting hotel in Miami on Sunday night to meet the SES arrivals. When I go to SEO events I like to arrive at least one day prior to the event, because that’s when most of the big wigs are there. Mike Grehan had already been in town for a few days, having just come from Hong Kong. Danny was, of course, also there, and I was also glad to see the stalwart Brad Geddes. There were a few other tried and true SES favorites there, but I’ll not list them all here.
Brad took a pic of Kris Covino (CTO of Date.com), me, and Joe Martin at the hotel bar. The guys from http://www.webmasterradio.fm/ did not show up, but I was there flying their colors for them Monday night at the Google party.
The Google party only had a couple of hundred people show up, and only about 500 to 600 attended the conference overall. As usual, I did not attend any sessions, but I heard the tracks were pretty basic stuff. Hopefully, next year, SES Latino will be even bigger.
Even though I’m close to Miami, other locations would be nice. Havana (LOL), or maybe Cancun would be nice.
Joe and I took a taxi down from Hollywood for the Monday night Google party, so we could both drink. Round trip total taxi costs, including tip, $130. Cheaper than a room. However, when the Google party was over at 10, the Bongo’s bar closed and we milled around until the Yahoo part crowd of a dozen showed up, (The Yahoo party was on a yacht and limited to 40 people.) but there was no resurrecting this crowd. We hung out at the hotel bar for a while, talking with various SEO people from Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Costa Rica, and probably some other places.
The latin market is going to explode in the next few years. I expect SES Latino will have four times as many people show up next year.
After I get back from my next trip to The Philippines, I hope to travel to Costa Rica to get a spanish outsourcing office started.
