5th Annual Google Dance
The 5th Annual Google Dance was last night and it was a great bash. An estimated 7200 people attended and the rumored expense to Google was one cool million. Buses started picking up people in front of the San Jose Convention Center at 7:00 PM and they ran back and forth from the GooglePlex to the Convention Center until after 11:00 PM.
Last year I was one of the first people in line and was able to get on the first bus. This year the line was several hundred meters long. Fortunately, I was able catch a limo (www.chiclimo.com) with Chris Boggs, Aussiewebmaster, and Rusty Brick, as well as a few others. We went through three bottles of champaign on the way.
At the GooglePlex the Robot Wars were a nice added feature. There must’ve been a dozen arenas were attendees could battle each other using remote controlled robots.
Chris Boggs brought his lab coat for the meet the engineers meeting, but I bet he never made it to that meeting as it was all the way on the other side of the Plex where we got dropped off.
Last year I got to meet Larry Page. He snuck up on a crowd of us while we had Matt Cutts cornered. This year I missed him and Orkut, my googlebuddy from the year before.
