SES San Jose 2006 Photos

I didn’t take a lot of photos, but I do have a few good ones.

The above is a pic of Robert Charlton, me, and Chris Boggs. I met Chris for the first time at SES Chicago 2005. He was on my short list of SEO’s I wanted to meet. He came up to me and introduced himself, telling me he’d been wanting to meet me. Needless to say, this made the day and the event for me. Chris and I hit it off immediately, he’s an ex-Marine, and Marines were my hero’s growing up as I grew up in a town that had an unsung Marine hero, Sgt Boots Thomas, who actually raised the first flag on Iwo Jima. If Chris and I lived in the same town, we’d probably hang out together all the time.

Robert Charlton was on my short list of famous SEO people I wanted to meet as he posts quite a bit at various SEO forums and his posts are always well reasoned and thoughtful. He’s one of the rocks of the SEO community.

neuron and Robert Barger, President of GoGuides, the 5th best directory on the web, after DMOZ, Yahoo, Business, and BOTW.

Becky Ryan, the hottest of SEO babes, she’s lead of technical support for Bruce Clay, and is one of the most regular of SEO event attendees. What you can’t see is the line that formed behind me of others also wanting to get their pics taken with her. Becky took most of the pics, below of me as “Spamking” getting my butt kicked by Yahoo in the Sumo wrestling contest.

buce-clay-sm.jpg

Becky’s boss, Bruce Clay, recovering from his Sumo match. I challenged Bruce to a Sumo contest but he got his sumo suit on faster than I did and once you get one of those plastic suits on, you are ready to get the suit off as soon as possible, so I don’t blame him for taking on the first opponent available.

neuron, All sumo’d up and ready to wrestle.

Joe-Lipson-Yahoo-SEO-sm.jpg

Joe Lipson of Yahoo!, my sumo opponent. Correct me if I’m wrong, but my understanding of Joe Lipson’s job is that he’s Yahoo’s SEO and is responsible for getting Yahoo pages to rank high in Google.

When I found out who I was wrestling, I told Daron, the MC, to annouce me as “Spam King”, to make for a good match. Daron played it up well during the match, bantering about how Yahoo treats spammers. When I had originally challenged Bruce Clay, I was planning to be “unethical SEO” since Bruce is the originator of the SEO Code Of Ethics. Since that didn’t come to pass, I figured I might as well make the best of it with Joe Lipson.

Here I am, above, being helped up after Round 2. I took a nasty knock on the noggin after being thrown past the pads and hitting my head on the bare tile, but I was so ready to get that damned suit of by then I had no problem facing off for Round 3. Yahoo trounced the Spam King 3 out of 3, roundly tossing the spammer out of the ring.

DaveN, above, getting ready to Sumo. This guy does sumo like he does SEO, ball-to-the-wall. I feel sorry for the guy that was Dave’s opponent. Dave was doing full body slams and generally trouncing the poor fellow.

neuron with Dana Todd and Dax, the two most colorful of SEOs. Dana, just re-elected for a second term as president of SEMPO, has a new Press Release site/company. It’s still in Beta, but she said she was looking for sites that could stress her offerings. You can contact her via http://www.sitelab.com/ as I did not get the name of the new company.

Todd and Daron. No particular reason for this pic except it’s one of the best I got from SES San Jose.

Here’s Greg and I flipping off seoluv. Does anyone like that guy?

Michael Rogers, AKA seoluv, the biggest asshole I’ve ever met. Normally, I’m the nicest of guys, deferential to the end, but this Michael Rogers asshole is just beyond comprehension. He’s an American, living in The Philippines, who for some unknown reason thinks he’s an SEO. I won’t go into details here, but this guy asserts that I owe him money or links or something. He says he doesn’t work for less than $500 per hour, which might explain why he’s so desperate for money. This asshole is so much of an asshole I wouldn’t be surprised if he sued me for saying he’s an asshole. Asshole! This guy was impressed that I got “marisyl castillon” to rank number 1 at google for the search term “marisyl castillon”, and even claims he can get other sites indexed in one day. WOW!

I met this asshole motherfucker in Cebu, shortly after my arrival back in The Philippines. We met at Bo’s Coffee Club at Raintree Mall. Various Americans would pass us as we sat at tables on the sidewalk and he would call out to them, trying to engage them in conversation. You could see the fear in these guys eyes as they recognized this Michael Rogers asshole, praying they could escape, they barely slowed down. He claims he knows and controls all the SEOs in The Philippines and wanted to start an “SEO syndicate”. I’m still not sure what that means, but I do know I want nothing to do with this guy.

The SEO industry is wide open. Anyone can get into it and learn the business. I wish the best to any who want to join this wide-open field, especially if they are from The Philippines. Nevertheless, let it be known here and now, I do not like this asshole Michael Rogers and I do not want any part of anything he may ever be engaged in.

Excellent. SEO Philippines will love this post. I am sure every active member of the group knows Michael Rogers seoluv. Whenever he talks in the mailing list, nobody listens. *lol*

  2. Mike Lopez Says:

Oh yes, I totally agree with you that Michael Rogers is a total SEO Asshole. This guys calls me on the phone for just to brag and to tell me to learn from him. Never thought he sounded exactly the same to his fellow Americans.
