A good day for flying!
I’m back in The Philippines. God, I love this country. I had a local attorney, Douglas Rustila, meet me at the Cebu International Airport. He happens to be best buds with the head of airport security. I breezed through faster than I could have imagined, no standing in line, and they had my luggage waiting for me. And it only cost me about $29.50 USD. You can’t beat that for economy.
My flight from LAX to HKG was again a 747, but this time I lucked into a bulkhead seat on the aisle. I swear those economy seats are the smallest of any commercial plane I’ve ever flown. The last time I did the HKG to LAX I got claustrophobic and thought I was gonna be in the newspapers the next day. This time I was prepared. No alcohol needed, just pop 6 of the little Xanax pills, that’s only like 1.5 of the big ones, and I slept for 9 of the 14 hours.
My fiance was almost as glad to see me as I was glad to see her. Filipinas are usually quite reserved. It is a joy to see one that can’t quite contain herself.
I paid P400 for an all day pass at Bo’s Coffee Club, hooked up my travel router and got Marissa’s laptop online without missing a beat. Actually, the whole place has free internet right now, but I’m not telling anyone as they’ll probably ban me. There’s a Starbucks across the street that also has wireless access but the system works the same, you actually have to go to the cash register and get a printed receipt with a username and password.
I am looking for a national wireless service here similar to the Verizon EVDO, but it looks like that kind of service may not quite be ready for primetime here yet, not for travelers.
