Fuentes Pension House, Cebu, The Philippines
Fuentes’s Pension House in Cebu charges P1750n for their most deluxe room, about $34 per night, the rooms are nice and the service for the most part is good. We did use their laundry service and had a bit of trouble getting all our clothing back. They asked for us to provide an inventory of our clothing before they would return some stuff. I stuffed my sneakers in with the dirty laundry, hoping they’d clean them too, but they came back just as dirty as I sent them in. I guess I’ll have to clean my own shoes. They have a open balcony resteraunt/bar on the fourth floor with Videoke. The Fuentes is in the heart of Cebu, centrally located, making many places easy to get to.
One thing I don’t like about Philippine hotels and pension houses is that the key is used to turn the electricty on in the rooms, when you leave the room and take the key with you, the whole room shuts down. I expired my laptop battery a couple of times doing this. This also shuts down the A/C (better known as AirCon here. If you say “A/C” people say “huh?”
There were several Americans staying at this place. Only one of which looked like he cared about his appearance. I don’t know what it is about Americans in The Philippines, but most look like they are living on a $600 social security disability check or something. One American I met was sitting on the sidewalk drinking from a bottle of Tanduay rum, filthy dirty. He offered me a drink, and told me he was living like a king on his retirement money. This seemed impossible to verify due to the immediate circumstances.
