Charter Pension House, Iloilo City
Of the three pension house we stayed at in Iloilo City, I like Charter Pension House the best, it’s in the Sarabia Manor Hotel & Convention Center Complex, where there are several restaurants and businesses, a school tutoring Koreans in English, and a netcafe. While Charter was a bit old, showing a bit of the dingyness of Eros, it was not nearly so pronounced.
Peeve: I must have killed a dozen mosquitoes in that room and they just seemed to keep coming. I’m not saying there was a swarm of them, but there was always one. Kill the one and another appeared.
The nice thing about Charter is that you can use the Sarabia Manor Hotel swimming pool. The cost of our room, which was large, was only only P750 (~$15), and the room had plenty of furnishings and the the bathroom was spacious and the water as hot as I could stand it, a rarity in Filipino pension houses.
In the Sarabia Manor Hotel complex my preferred restaurant was the Poolside Cafe. I tried the restaurant inside the Sarabia Hotel, and ordered a Ceasar salad. The salad cost P195 (~$2), and it was small and the lettuce soggy rather than crisp. I could have gotten a better salad for P20 just down the street. Since the salad left a lot to be desired, and I was still hungry, I ordered a cheese burger. What I got was a large doughy bun with four pieces of diluted meat inside. The meat had been mixed with bread crumbs and it took four pieces to cover the bread. This was absolutely not was described. The bill was enormous.
Recommendation:Â In Iloilo stay at Highway 21 (newly refurbished rooms) or at Charter Pension House, and eat at the Sarabia Manor complex restaurants, but not at the main Sarabia Restaurant.
