2nd SEO Philippines Event & Ranking Contest
Marissa and I flew to Manila on the 28th of October for the 2nd SEO Philippines event at Jill’s at The Fort, in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, near the new Market!Market! mall. While Jill’s had a sign announcing they had WiFi, it was difficult to connect to, and I couldn’t pull an IP address.
We were a bit early and Jill’s wouldn’t let us in, so we ate at Gordo’s instead, as they were quite cordial about letting us plug our laptops in without charging us. Three other places we were going to eat at either had no electric available, or wanted to charge us, which is just dumb as we ran up a P1300 tab on our meal and softdrinks at Gordo’s. I had to connect via my WeRoam wireless card.
I sure hope Marc shedules upcoming events at places that actually have good connectivity; this was the 2nd event that had WiFi that really sucked.
Still, my WeRoam worked good enough to pull the results of from Google to find the 43rd ranked site for “Isulong SEOph” for an iPod.
And, my camera worked well enough for me to get a few good shots. Above is a pic of Abe “Yuga” Olandres, the most famous and widely published of Philippine bloggers.
Here’s a pic of the Google Girls, Aileen Apolo, the new official Google Representative for The Philippines, and Marissa, wearing her Google Dance 2006 shirt. Aileen comes to Google after 5 years with the Yellow Pages. Online advertising and marketing is nothing new to her, but I got the impression that she isn’t very SEO savvy, but then Matt Cutts wasn’t very SEO savvy either just a few short years ago. I got the impression that Ms Apolo’s main mission for Google is to increase advertising revenues from The Philippines for Adwords.
