Fraternal Order Of Eagles, Philippine Eagles
I was sworn in and deputized as a member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles (Philippine Eagles) just a couple of days ago. I know many members of The Eagles from competitive shooting competitions. I think many of them are members of the PPSA (Philippine Practical Shooting Association), as am I. Many of them are also Freemasons. I was given a seminar in traffic control and vehicle laws and am now allowed to participate in vehicle checkpoints.
Fellow members (an all male group) call each other “kuya” (brother), but I prefer “akong kuyo” (my brother).
One of my better known kuyas is Propero Pichay, Jr., a member of the Philippine House of Representatives, and likely a Senator after the next election. Congressman Pichay is an avid surfer and has been the single most influential man in promoting the great surfing here in The Philippines. He’s also the president of the National Checss Federation of The Philippines (NCFP).
Kuya Pichay is noted politically for endorsing the verified complaint against former President Joseph Estrada (convicted and then pardoned by Arroyo). He also voted in 2004 and 2005 to junk the impeachment complaints against President Arroyo even at the height of the “Hello Garci” scandal. He also came out as an early proponent for the “cha-cha” (‘Charter Change, to abolish the Senate and create on unicameral parliament), which never came to fruition.

Akong kuya, yes, CdO is for Cagayan de Oro. Yes, I am a kuya now, your kuya also I suspect. As an American, I know very little Tagalog, and not much more Visayan, but The Philippines is my home now, and The Philippine Eagles are my brothers, akong kuyas (my brothers). If you care to visit CdO, please be my guest, just give me a little notice. I have an extra room, and you will be welcome here.

“meron po bang girl na eagle?”
Are there girl Eagles?
Yes and no. The Philippine Eagles is a fraternal organization, which basically means it is a Men’s Club. There are lady Eagles, but not in all clubs. For instance, in the Cagayan de Oro Chapter of the Philippine Eagles, the Lady Eagles, who are the wives of the men members are very active. However, in other nearby chapters, such as another Eagles Club in Cagayan de Oro, the “Golden Friendship Eagles Club” wives of the members are not organized. Neither are the wives of the members of the Opol Eagles Club, and neither are the wives of the Iligan Eagles Club. However, the Iligan Eagles Club has an offshoot called the “Junior Eagles”, which allows members, both male and female between the ages of 18 and 25. From what I can tell most other Eagles Clubs are not in favor of creating “Junior Eagles” clubs. While I happen to believe that some clubs and organizations should be men only and others should be women only, I also think that “Junion Eagles” clubs that allow both males and females to join is a good idea. While a female member of the Junior Eagles cannot matriculate to become a member of the Philippine Eagles, most people in the 18 to 25 year-old bracket in the Philippines are single. Thus, the “Junior Eagles” allows for socialization between young male potential and likely members of the Eagles and females who are likely to be attracted to males who are have the potential to become full-fledged members of the Philippine Eagles. I think of the Junior Eagles as more of a singles group of like minded individuals of both sexes, and as such I am for it. However, I also believe that a fraternity is a fraternity. There are some clubs for men and some for women. In the Eagles Club of Cagayan de Oro, the wives of members are known as “Lady Eagles” and they play a very significant role in the civic activities of our club. Our club would not be the same without them.

Is The Fraternal Order Of Eagles (Phils.) related to the Fraternal Order Of Eagles in U.S.A?? Because They Call Themselves as Aerie and Auxiliary?
May 18th, 2009 at 20:40
No they are not related, although in many ways they serve a similar purpose. Like their American counterparts there are “Junior Eagles”, and “Eagle Riders” (motorcyclists). The Philippine Eagles is a social-civic group that shares many of the ideals of the American Fraternal Order of Eagles. Some sites for Philippine Eagles are http://philippineeagles.blogspot.com/ and http://www.cdoeaglesclub.org/ and http://www.eaglesinstitute.org/, The American FOE site is http://www.foe.com/ The Philippine Eagles Club is 30 years old. The FOE is 111 years old, and includes among its present and past membership, quite a few famous people as well as a few Presidents of the United States. There’s a good wiki article on FOE at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraternal_Order_of_Eagles
