Don Livingston, RIP
Don Livingston, the wittiest of all Cagayan de Oro ex-pats, if not the oldest, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2008.
The above is a photo of Don from his wife’s birthday party back in September, 2007. Don also happened to be a client of my attorney, Joe Pallugna, which is how I know him.
Don and I had a lot in common, one of which was a sense of humor. I would often greet him in a crowd of people by saying “hello, gentlemen. Oh, and you, too, Don, I didn’t mean to leave you out”. Which he always seemed to appreciate and no one else seemed to get.
Despite Don’s age, he was adept with computers, at least with the computers of his age, and was both a database designer and administrator. Of course we are talking about pre-btrieve days.
Don, born in America, spent 25 years living in Switzerland and several other years in other countries and it is little surprise he ended up dwelling out his days in The Philippines, a retirement haven for more and more people every year.
Don, I will miss you. Promise.

Has Don’s children and grandchildren been notified? Did any of them make it to the funeral? Is his live in GF ok along with her children?

I don’t know. I think the only foreigners that made the funeral were local ones, foreigners living here that knew him. I think there were 17 or 18 of us that showed up. From what I understand, all his bank accounts here were frozen immediately. Notification of his family in USA and/or Europe I will leave to his family and attorney here. As for his GF here and her children, I think they will have a hard time with things. Don was paying for one of the girls to go to nursing school and that is probably going to end, unfortunately. A lot of the local foreigners did chip in for the funeral costs.
