Australian Interplast
The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro sponsored about 85 children the past couple of weeks for surgeries that were donated by Australian Interplast. The vast majority of surgeries were performed for cleft palate and cleft lip, often combinations of the two, but some were burn patients also.
I would like to personally thank Doctors Michael McGlynn, Kevin Ho, Ruth Hippisley, John McCarty, and Joe McGuinness, along with registered nurses Amy Hopper (fiance of Kevin Ho), and Dee McGlynn (wife of Michael McGlynn), for performing the surgeries. Another special thanks goes out to Mrs. Teresita Sambaaan (fondly known as “Mother Teresa”) of the Philippine Service of Mercy, who arranged for the surgeries of all the children.
(That’s me in the orange shirt in the back.) I found two of the patients myself. One, while waiting some gun modifications at my gunsmith’s shop in Tagloan, and another while waiting outside the local LTO office while my wife took her driving license test.
These surgeries have been going on for 10 years now and are expected to continue. I beg any and all local Filipino readers who know of or may run into a child with a cleft palate of cleft lip to get in touch with me. Please make your best attempt to obtain contact information from some adult parent or guardian of the child such as a cell phone number and a physical address and pass that information on to me and I will make sure the child is registered for the next scheduled surgery.
