Expat Night in The Philippines at Zax

The first Saturday of every month is expat night at Zax Retro-bar. (I’m not sure what “retro-bar” means unless it means they play songs from 20 or more years back. I’ve heard the bands there play songs that are from the ’50s.)

This place is packed with foreigners the first Saturday of every month and the word must have gotten out, because this place is also packed with some very fine Filipinas. The women out-number the men 10 to 1 and most of the men bring their own asawas. February 2nd, 2008, was a fine example of how the Filipinas flock to this place on expat night. See the video to see for yourself.

Of course. The next Foreigner night will be this coming Saturday, June 7, 2008, the 5th monthday of my son. They always have a couple of good bands at Zax and play a lot of oldies, but they do some recent songs, too. The music is a little too loud for me and it is difficult to hold conversations there, but there are usually a dozen or more European/American foreigners there the first Saturday evening of each month. There’s also a foreigner gathering every Friday afternoon at Spooks, http://www.spookscdo.com/ from about 4:30 to 8 PM. They have an eat-all-you-can buffet for only PHP 180. There’s a pretty good turn out there also of foreigners, their asawas and children. Most people leave before the dancing girls get on stage at 9 PM, but some stay.
