Electric Scooters coming to Cagayan de Oro

Emotion electric scooters are on their way to Cagayan de Oro.

I rode one of these the other day and it drove just like a regular scooter, except that it was almost totally silent.

See that small chrome cylinder on the rear wheel with the red end?  That’s the electric motor that powers these bikes.  The batteries are kept where the engine on a conventional underbone bike would be.

Different models use different battery types and have different wattage outputs.  From what the literature says about them their cost to run is a small fraction of the cost of a gasoline powered bike.

A friend of mine has already purchased a container load of these bikes and they should be in Cagayan de Oro in the next couple of weeks.  Drop a comment with your cell number and your email and I’ll make sure you can be one of the first to try these out and/or buy one.

    Hi Mike,

Once you get your hands on it, lemme know how long can one run before batteries run out. Also, lemme know how long does it take to recharge the batteries and how much electricity does it consume when recharging.

It’s quite interesting and if it works right then I might find one of em here in Manila.

    Mike

The top model is the EM 350 and has a range of 60 to 120 km @ 35 km/h and takes 3 to 5 hours to fully charge. It is rated at 800 watts output with a top speed of 55 to 65 km/h. The second one is the EM 800 model with a range of 60 to 100 km @ 35 km/h, it has a 1000 watt output and a speed of 55 to 65 km/h also, and the same charging time. I don’t expect they would have a range of more than 30 or 40 km at top speed though. They did tell me there will be higher powered models. Also, they say they will go 100 km at a cost of 9 to 15 pesos in electrical cost, whereas a conventional scooter would cost you about 88 pesos to go the same distance.

    What’s the price range?

  4. michael Says:

I don’t have prices for all the models, but I think they are in the PHP 60K range for the EM 800 model anyway.

If that motorcycle can get myself and my girlfriend (about 330 pounds total) from the very bottom of Camilla Homes, up the steep hill in the development 1 km to the main road, then all the way over to Limketkai mall, and then all the way back up the steep hill from CDO to SM mall, and back to my house, without at any point slowing to walking speed with full throttle, and on a single charge, I’d be interested. Let me know when I can test-drive that route.

Oh… one more question: If it breaks, who can fix it?
