Hell on Wheels

…and on just about everything else.  More than a year ago Cagayan de Oro Mayor Tinnex Jaraula, then a congressman, sought and got approval for a refurbishment/resurfacing of Velez Street, which is the main North-South Street going through town.  The Street actually belongs to the national government so repairs to this street cannot be authorized by the local city government.  The street is a terrible hodgepodge of patches and potholes and has been for years.

No funds for the project were released until Congressman Rufus Rodriguez sought immediate release of the funds, which just happened last week.  The project, now funded is already underway.  While public officials are saying that they are giving 120 days to project completion, or about four months, out of the other sides of their mouths they are saying they hope the project will be complete by the time for Cagayan de Oro’s Annual Saint Agustines’s Fiesta, which culminates on August 28.  That’s SIX months from now.

In the interim, expect nothing but vehicular havoc downtown.  I, for one, am going to spend a lot more time motoring around on my scooter than in my car.
