14th National Federation of Motorcycle Clubs Convention in Cagayan de Oro
I never knew there were so many big bikes in The Philippines, but the past week CdO has been overun with them. I have seen less than half a dozen real big bikes locally. However, with the 14th National Federation of Motorcycle Clubs Convention convening in Cagayan, big bikes were all over the place and it was a delight to see. I haven’t followed bikes much since my last Yamaha FZR was stolen out of my front yard back in 1993, so there were a lot of changes in the motorcycle World for me to catch up on.
I have always been a sports bike fan. My first big street bike was a “water buffalo” a 2-stroke, 3-cylinder, Suzuki water-cooled 750 cc bike that was superfast for 1977. I have never been into the “cruiser” style bikes although I recognize that Harley Davidson is a major contributor to the heritage of motorcycles, and I would love to have one.
As I have gotten older I recognize that I do not want to ride sport bikes any more. I cannot deal wiht the forward-leaning position. I prefer a standard-style, an upright riding position, but also a bike that I can slide my butt over the side so it won’t have to lean so much in the twisties. The collection of BMWs was impressive, but the bike I liked the most was the Yamaha FZ Fazer 1000. I had never seen one up close.
