National Eagles Week Celebration
The National Eagles Week Celbration, held between June 15-22, 2008, in Cagayan de Oro was sponsored by the Eagles Club of Cagayan de Oro, but included the Opol Eagles Club and the Golden Friendship Eagles club, also from CdO.
The week opened with a Marathon run from the Gusa Traffic Light to the MPSC Firing Range, beginning at 5:00 AM. I did not participate in that. For one thing, that’s too early for me, and second< I get short-winded when I run. Later the same day, at Exavier Estates, Upper Paluland, there was a bowling tournamnet. I was also unable to attend that event.
From the smile on Sonny’s face, with Chito as his partner, you can tell Sonny knows he’s going to win champion at the darts tourney. This photo was taken before the even even began.
On June 17, 2008, at the Sports Zone in Nazareth there was a badmitton tournament at 5:00 PM. Unfortunately, I was also unable to attend that.
However, on June 18, 2008, at 6:00 PM, at Duaw, Iponan, there was a darts tournament, and I was able to participate in that. Kuya Al Asum was my partner. We placed 2nd runner up, beaten by a pair of dart sharps from Opal Eagle Club, with the championship going to Chito and Sonny. Chito, the webmaster for the CdO Eagles Club was just unbleatable. He I saw him throw 100 points 4 times in a row.
On June 19, there were basketball tournaments, with the CdO Eagles fielding two teams, the Golden Friendship Eagle Club fielding one team, and the Opol Eagles Club also fielding one team. I believe Opal came in #1 in the basketball tourny, with Golden Friendship 2nd, followed by the CdO Eagles Club Team A and B, in that respective order.
A fun-shoot was scheduled for June 21, 2008, but had to be posponed for two weeks, until July 5, 2008. I do intend to participate in that, and while I may not make champion, I certainly hope to place well.
The awards night was held on June 21, 2008, at Sunriva Restaurant, which began and ended with a bingo social. Top prize was p15,000, which was split because their were two winners. The 2nd prize was for P10,000, and was one by only one person, so he actually was high money winner for the night. 3rd prize was P5000, and there were four consolation prizes for p2500 each.
Marissa started out with 12 cards and she seemed to need my help to go over the cards, but as the jackpots got bigger, Marissa bought my cards and basically elbowed me out of the way. He had her bingo card marker, and with two dozen cards she was able to keep up with the ball calling, even without my help.
It was a great week to be an Eagle.
